Extra disclosure: As my affiliate link notice always states, I will earn a small commission from any purchases made through my links. I am not paid to write this post; all thoughts are my own honest opinions and I try to write as authentically as possible. The Bali Market has sent me gifted towels over the years, but I’ve also purchased my own towels, because I aim to be transparent and credible. I appreciate your support of my work!

What’s the Big Deal About Turkish Towels?

Are they made from fairy dust and unicorn tears?

Pretty much. Jk. Now that they’ve entered the mainstream, we’re starting to see Turkish towels advertised everywhere, but not all are created equally. Please do your homework on the fiber content.

I’ll make that part easy.

The Bali Market has a great info page explaining why the best Turkish towels are made from 100% long-staple Turkish cotton. Long story short: that special fiber is super absorbent, strong, and grows infinitely softer over time. My two cents: only buy towels from a reputable seller to ensure you’re buying a product made from 100% Turkish cotton.

I haven’t mentioned this before, but one reason why I partner with The Bali Market is because they have a direct relationship with a woman-owned, artisan textile business in Turkey. I love that connection. This is a quote from their website:

“We’re all about authenticity at The Bali Market and, since we are a woman-owned Turkish towel retailer – we work directly with a woman-owned Turkish towel company in Turkey. They value using traditional wooden hand looms, and locally grown First Grade 100% Turkish cotton.”

Feels good to know where your dollars go, doesn’t it? Ultimately, we’re supporting a community in Turkey, where I hope they will continue to manufacture these products for years to come.

How to Use Turkish Towels

A quick overview of Turkish towel uses. If you’re curious about my connection to The Bali Market, please read my review of their towels for our collab history.

You might first think of Turkish towels as bathroom linens, and they are lovely for a spa-like experience. I even have a stash I use strictly for staging houses because the subtle texture and tassels add a ton of character to a sterile bathroom. Read more of my real estate staging tips here.

I spy a Turkish towel in the bathroom and as a throw blanket on the bed…

However, for years I’ve also been singing the praises of Turkish towels as the go-to choice for hand towels.

They are the best option for both bathrooms and kitchens where wet hands are often reaching for a towel. Absorbent, super soft, and quick-drying, there’s nothing better suited for a hand towel.

I will die on this hill.

Plus, look at these delicious colors.

What Are Turkish Towel BLANKETS?

Are they any different from regular Turkish towels? Well… yes and no. Turkish towel blankets and Turkish towels are sometimes interchangeable terms. That’s because larger towels can also be used as blankets due to their generous size.

The Bali Market sells products in each category, so if you specifically want a blanket size, check out their selection of blankets. I bought the Essential Stripe blanket and I love it’s double-thickness so it feels extra cushy.

Today, I’m sharing plenty of ideas for Turkish towel blankets using the towel size, to illustrate how versatile and useful they are to have on hand.

Practical Indoor Decor With Turkish Towel Blankets

Check out the size of this towel. It’s 40″x70″ and long enough to drape across a double bed as a throw. This one is the Diamond Design in dark grey; it’s new to me and it’s fantastic. Plush and soft, it’s one of the best fabric options for a blanket out of The Bali Market’s entire catalog of styles.

Please know that all Turkish towels are relatively thin. When I say “plush,” I mean that it’s thick and soft relative to the smooth feel of the Perfect Classic. It’s still a thin fabric for a blanket, but I find that it’s nice to have a thinner throw blanket in some locations around the house. (If you want a thicker blanket, consider this one, shown on my couch above in yellow.)

Here are a few more ideas for using the towel size as a blanket.

  1. Fold and drape it over the arm or back of a chair or couch.

2. Casually/messily drape a towel over a chair. Make sure the tassels are visible since that’s half the charm.

3. Fold up a blanket and drape it across the end of a bed. Doesn’t this Marine Stripe towel look cute in a blue and white bedroom? It adds a nautical flair to the room.

Love these ideas but prefer a larger size for bedrooms and living rooms? This chevron design Turkish towel blanket looks incredible. It has a similar subtle pattern to the diamonds, but it’s available in the 70″x90″ blanket size.

Why Turkish Towel Blankets Are Ideal Outdoors

Here’s another avenue for your lovely Turkish towels – adventures in the great outdoors. The Bali Market makes a variety of styles that can be used for all sorts of outdoor activities. You’ll get a kick out of my first example.

Travel Blanket

Now that baseball has started, we’re spending a lot of time in the cheering section. I bring a Turkish towel in my bag because, inevitably, either my younger son or I get cold if the field is breezy. It’s light enough to pack in a bag and large enough for a cozy wrap. I made Wyatt snap a photo last weekend:

These are also perfect as light blankets on a flight. They roll up compactly in your bag or you can board the plane wearing one as a wrap.

Pool + Beach Blankets

I never leave for the pool without a Turkish towel. Thin, light, and quick-drying, they really shine when you need to bring a towel to the pool or beach. Plus, you can wear them as a cute sarong, if you’re stylish like that.

A legit Turkish towel blanket would be dreamy at the beach, if you’re looking for an upgrade. When I was a kid, my dad would haul an old pink bedspread we called “the beach blanket” (clever) across the hot sand and it must have weighed 10 lbs. I’ve never been that committed to my family’s comfort. Kidding!

Patio Decor

We’re itching to spend evenings outside as the days get longer and the patio beckons. Turkish towel blankets are the perfect accessory to have on hand so chilly weather doesn’t ruin the vibe. You could stash one in a basket near the patio furniture for easy access. Here’s my new pool towel as an example (it’s pretty thin for a blanket, but the colors work well here as a demo.)

At our last house, I kept a Turkish towel blanket on our porch swing in the backyard. My son loved to curl up in the blanket and listen to audiobooks outside.

I just bought these Marine Stripe towels in the yellow and red stripe patterns for my pool bag. The red, white, and blue stripes might also need to make an appearance on the 4th of July. Wouldn’t this make a fun table runner for a party on the 4th? I mentioned this is a thin towel, so it works well as a makeshift table runner. (I hope more colors come back in stock asap!)

My Turkish Towel Reviews

If you’re still on the fence about these lovely textiles, please read my other blog posts about Turkish towels. I wrote about other affordable Turkish towels, mostly from Amazon, in this post on good, affordable Turkish towels. Not all of those recs are 100% Turkish cotton, so you’ll need to check for that if it’s a priority for you.

I also wrote an honest review of The Bali Market products after using their towels for a year in this post: My Review of Turkish Towels from The Bali Market.

If you love giving food, kitchen- or bath-related gifts, try wrapping them in a towel as a bonus gift! Here’s how: Reusable Gift Wrap Ideas.

I also share my care instructions in this blog post. I do like to soak them in cold water for at least a few hours to let the fibers bloom and become more absorbent (no clue if this truly happens, but what’s the harm in trying it?). The Bali Market website also shares care tips and directions for retying the tassels, should they unwind.
