If you’re shopping for the best door hardware you can afford for an interior door update, you’ll love this post. Today I’m sharing stats on what real people actually buy for interior door hardware.
This article will reveal some very clear trends in the best door hardware. Because I track sales data driven by my website traffic, I can see what real people are buying. These aren’t home flippers looking for the cheapest possible hardware; my readers appreciate stylish, affordable, quality products.
These stats are from Amazon, because that’s the best data I can review for purchases through my affiliate links.

How This Door Hardware Post is Organized
This data is pulled from Amazon sales through my links from January 2022 through August 2023. Because remodeling trends don’t change on a dime, they evolve gradually over the years, this data is fairly steady. Unlike my previous post on cabinet hardware people actually bought, the past two years in door hardware sales have been very consistent.
Note: I realize this data is skewed. People searching for black door hardware found my blog post on black door hardware. Obvs. However, I can also see when shoppers make other picks. If someone started out with my suggested links but ultimately chose a different door handle, that data counts, too.
Also interesting to note is how trends are similar from 2022 to 2023. As a result, I’ve grouped this data by hardware style, since it didn’t really change from year to year.
If you’re curious about a particular style, just drop a comment below.
Let’s dig in!
The Best Door Hardware Is…
Out of all the choices on Amazon, real shoppers have bought the most black door levers. There are a few outliers, but black levers are the clear winners from these Amazon purchases.
If you prefer, skip this recap and jump to the roundup.
From Schlage to Kwikset to Amazon Basics, black and modern styles are the top picks across the board. It makes sense; those are the styles featured in my articles on door hardware.
(Please remember, I can also see when people choose other options, if they’ve started from my links.)
You’ve seen these levers in most of my home photos, but they are a top pick for a reason; Schlage makes an affordable and high-quality product.
Some of these levers and knobs are top sellers as both passage and privacy (locking) options. I’ve only linked to one of those variations below; no need to double up. We’re just looking at styles here.
Although these are interior door levers, they can often be combined with front door handle sets to match the other interior doors in your home. Here’s an example, showing the inside of a front door. This is a Schlage Latitude Door Lever with Century Trim plus a Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt.

Most Popular Black Knobs
Also very popular are these modern black door knobs.
The first two knobs in the top row are actually the same Kwikset Pismo Knob with different roses. You can choose a square or round rose behind the knob, which is typical of most door hardware manufacturers.

These are very popular. I’ve seen the Kwikset Pismo Knob in plenty of homes in recent years. It looks really sharp in person:
Other top sellers include these knobs from Schlage, below.
As above, this is the same Schlage Bowery Knob, but with two different roses for a different look.
I chose the Schlage Bowery knob for two exterior doors at our last house. They are solid knobs and work with both modern and more traditional home styles. Either Schlage or Kwikset are good picks for the value.
Satin Nickel – Still Going Strong in 2023
Satin nickel is a slightly shinier version of brushed nickel, and it’s still a popular pick.
Satin nickel looks great on many types of doors and I’m not surprised this door handle is a top seller. Surprise, surprise – it’s the Schlage Latitude Handle!
Now, here’s the one that does surprise me. It wouldn’t be fair to ignore that this appears on my best-seller list, although very close to the end. There are still some fans of this graceful lever style:
Best Door Hardware Wrap-Up
As you can see, modern black knobs and levers are heavy favorites for Amazon shoppers starting at my blog. While none of these results are terribly surprising, I do wonder where brass falls in the rankings.
After my blog post Modern Black Door Hardware blew up, I wrote this post called Affordable Modern Door Hardware. My goal was to present a more balanced roundup of door hardware options in a range of finishes. However, it does not seem like many homeowners are choosing brass for doors.
Have any of you purchased brass knobs and levers for your interior doors? What influenced your decision?
Or, if you also chose black for an interior door update, how did you choose that finish? I’m curious. Please leave a comment and let us know!
I’ll leave you with one last photo, below. Here’s the Schlage Sienna Knob with Addison Trim. I just saw this choice in person in a newly-remodeled home. It’s very pretty and feels nice in your hand. Maybe future trends will lean into nostalgic shapes like this oval knob…
